Being a roman colony since 180 BC Lucca preserved some features characteristic for roman settlements. Remains of old amphitheatre or roman street plan are visible in the oldest part of the city. Also built in Renaissance era city walls are the sign of times past. Being a great historical spot Lucca also shows its more modern face yearly organising Lucca Summer Festival which is visited by world class musicians.
